How Healthy is Your Home? Radon...What You Need to Know!

How Healthy is Your Home?Home, sweet home.  Right?  Did you know that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer?  Many people who are now spending a lot more time in their home and need to be aware of the dangers radon gas poses and how to test for it.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive soil gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium and radium, elements often found underground in the limestone throughout Tennessee.  Radon seeps up through the ground and can enter homes through cracks in basement floors, walls, joints, and crawl spaces.  With the advances in insulation, energy-efficient windows, and building materials, radon has fewer pathways to exit your home, which leads to more elevated levels.

It’s important to know that radon levels vary from home to home, so while your neighbor’s level may be low it doesn’t mean your home will be.  Since radon is colorless and odorless, you have no way of detecting it without a specific radon test.  A professional will do testing for radon usually between $99 and $150.

If your home has elevated levels of radon, a radon mitigation system installed by a certified National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) provider is the best way to fix your radon problem.  One of my preferred partners is Radon 1.  They are the highest certified radon mitigation specialists in Middle Tennessee.

When you contact Radon 1, a member of the team will conduct a thorough inspection of your home and if elevated levels are found, provide you with the best, most cost-effective mitigation system option for your home. At Radon 1, they guarantee their radon remediation system will get your average level below the World Health Organization standard of 2.6 pCi/L.

As we all do more to ensure the health of our families, companies like Radon 1, headed by their Founder & President, David Coffey, are able to discuss questions and give real sustainable solutions to make the areas we spend the bulk of our time in safe.
